Lost in a garden full of music and colour.
In the story, the dreams and wishes of the emperors come true in the blink of an eye. In Het geheim van de keel van de nachtegal, a Chinese emperor dreams of a new Garden of Gardens. A simple mortal succeeds in taking this dream in the emperor's head and transforms it into reality. Just like the subjects of the empire, the audience holds its breath before this lovely spectacle in words and images.
But even the dreams of an emperor can fail. It is only when he hears the song of a nightingale that he understands that his garden is nothing without music. The nightingale is willing but by no means subservient. Its music is unique and cannot be kept in a cage. Can the emperor accept the fact that there is something that is beyond his power to control? Can the all-powerful emperor live with the thought that the secret of the nightingale's throat must always remain a secret?

Author Peter Verhelst has adapted the story of the Nightingale and the Emperor of China without sacrificing any of its mystery. Filip Bral has translated the wishes and the emotions into wondrous sounds. Actress Sara De Bosschere brings the various characters to life in all their simplicity against a fairyland decor by Jef Loots.
